FlowTabs — Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
What data FlowTabs collects
FlowTabs stores all your data (tab groups, blocks, notes, settings) locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. No data is sent to our servers because we don't have any.
Third-party services
FlowTabs connects to external services only when you explicitly opt in:
- Giphy API — If you add a Giphy API key in Settings and search for GIFs, your search query is sent to Giphy. See Giphy's privacy policy.
- GitHub API — If you add a GitHub token and use the sharing feature, your group data (tabs, notes, blocks) is uploaded as a public GitHub Gist. See GitHub's privacy policy.
- YouTube thumbnails — YouTube blocks load thumbnail images from img.youtube.com. No API key or user data is sent.
These features are optional. If you don't use them, no data leaves your browser.
Permissions
- Tabs, Tab Groups, Sessions — Used to display and manage your browser tabs.
- Storage — Used to save your groups, blocks, and settings locally.
- Top Sites — Used to show your most visited sites on the dashboard.
- Favicon — Used to display website icons.
- Context Menus — Used to add the right-click "Add to FlowTabs" option.
- Host permissions (all URLs) — Used by the content script to extract page metadata (title, description, preview image) for tabs you save. No page content is modified or transmitted.
Analytics and tracking
